It's that time of year again, when all of our memberships in USA Rugby lapse - including the membership of the club. The club has been re-submitted, but we are NOT a recognized club with USA Rugby until we have at least 15 individual members registered.

Unless you are new to the club, you all should have received several emails from This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. this month, reminding you that your membership is about to expire. It has the link and also lists your username. It is the same process as last year, where you log in and pay your $75 for the year (they are sticking us with a $1.50 processing fee, so the total is $76.50). Here is the relevant content from the email:

Thank you for a great year. Did you know your USA Rugby membership is going to expire on August 31?

You can renew for the 2016-2017 USA Rugby competitive season, please return to www.usarugby.org and click on the red “Register/Login” button. On the next page click on “Login.” Your username is listed below. Your membership will be activated and listed as current on Tuesday September 1, 2016.

You will be registering as a "senior player" and on the club dropdown menu it's the first Back Bay Rugby listed (there are several). It will show our address as being in Costa Mesa. It's so simple even a rugby player can do it. I'm certain Kevin will lead by example and jump on this immediately, but we need the rest of you to step up and do this as well.

I won't keep bugging you about this - but know that if you don't get this done quickly, you risk Death by Zim.

Cheers,

Wes

First game at around 10:30 was against Oxy Old Boys. I believe they beat us last year in a close game; this year was different. We scored a lot and often. Jeremy Kemp had two tries, Alex Carlson had two tries, Grant Reynolds and Howie Chadbourne had a try, and I think Jeff Davidson bulled one over.

Second game was against the host club, Los Angeles. They came out hungry and put two tries on the board early. Our defense held steady after that and we scored a long breakaway Sweeney to Chris Kemp and had momentum after that. Time was against us we lost by a try. In any event was an excellent game and Back Bay played very well on the day.

We had the annual after match ceremony in which team awards were given. Award recipients were:

Back Bay enjoyed a competitive weekend of rugby at the Huntington Beach Veterans Day tournament.

Although it was a long day, with Back Bay starting at 9am and playing all day and reaching the final, playing OMBAC as the sunset, it was a fun day and all players were part of a successful day.

The day started with a good victory over Vegas Downtown, seeing quite a few tries, including a try from new player Mike Preciado on his debut.

After a long wait, Back Bay took on Huntington Beach.  It was a tough battle but Back Bay won by 2 points to proceed in the tournament.

The 3rd game was against Vegas Irish in the playoffs and Back Bay lead the scoring, with Kevin Estipular scoring 4 tries to lead the team to the final.

OMBAC showed their team depth and quality and won in the final but everyone from Back Bay enjoyed the day, with new players showing that there will be competition for the upcoming season.

Well done to all those who played, and to the new players scoring, Mike Preciado and Ryan Lulow.
